SNES Breath of Fire

One of my all time favorite RPG series.

This one came to the west, but it wasn't Capcom (the makers of it) that brought it over here, it was Squaresoft. The entire script was translated by Ted Woosley.

I really loved it, the graphics, the sound and the plot. Really great adventures of the main character (named originally Ryu) who has the ability to change into a Dragon. That's one cool ability IMO.

The game was later re-released on the GBA and was near identical to the SNES, a very solid conversion. It has already been re-released on the Wii VC, but only in Japan. Since the game outside of Japan for the SNES was not by Capcom, I'm not sure this will get to the Wii VC over here...but at least BoF2 will most certainly get here.

If there's something men will never make the same, it's RPG... the old ones are real art.

Most people I grew up with do not consider Zelda to be a true RPG. Adventure is probably a better category.

@doomikusz I consider Zelda an Adventure game since most RPG games at the time were wholly different and for Zelda to even be considered an RPG the style of the game would have had to be changed..

I believe we are agreed. I have a place in my heart for Zelda, but it isn't Final Fantasy or Breath of Fire. I'll have to go back and check out BOF and BOF2 someday, I started with 3 on the PSX and thought it was an underrated gem.

@doomikusz I don't like Zelda, never did. Played Marjora's Mask and A Link To The Past, and I hate when people, like, try to obligate me to like it. Man, sometimes it looks like the only game good at Zelda's series is Ocarina Of Time (which I still have to play), and people that say themselves like RPG, just play Zelda, that pisses me off.

I'll never consider Legend Of Zelda in the same level as the classic Breath Of Fire, Final Fantasy, Live A Live, Lufia, etc.

Awesome series. Never got to play 5. Didnt realize it came state side. Best of the 4 i played though was number 2. Still break it out and play occassionaly.
