Two of my biggest musical rolemodels. Tony Williams must have been about 17 at the time.

  • He smiled when the rest of the quintet went livid over not getting paid for the NAACP Scholarship gig at Carnegie Hall. Hancock and Shorter almost left the building. Tony Williams was so unlike any drummer with Miles before or after. Listen to "Eighty One."

  • uuggghhh those double stroke rolls! I saw him perform at Yoshi's in Oakland before he passed. he was sick with the flu but still burned the house down!

  • tony has more technique at 17 than most great professional drummers will ever have. goddamn! it's almost overwhelming to watch.

  • Williams had so much confidence and maturity in his playing at such a young age. Another case for reincarnation. Having all of that ability and knowledge at such an early age.

  • 17 years old and playing for the Miles Davis Quintet... guess thats okay haha

  • 0:50 BEAST

  • :50 Swing it Tony!

  • @dirtpipedan The only dislike maybe would come from the ride cymbal, as Tony is beating the ever-loving shit out of it.

Then again, it probably liked the abuse...

  • Give me that ridecymbal, sounds amazing!!!!

  • the plugged nickel box set is amazing
