you all are missing the message of the time and the message. I appreciate your defending Jerry and his tunes, but with that being said, the younger generation doesn't get it.. It was a time of peace and love and "who cares" what others think. You have one life to live, live it and don't answer to anyone. :) Don't stress about it. Not worth your time bro. Some are just not going to ever get it. Be happy we do! Peace

Of course, but there is no argument. I was there. And now I am here.

    Hail Eris!

I've read plenty, thanks. Were they aware of their succes? Yes, they were very concious! They sold out stadiums to the end; people were begging for tickets and sleeping in barns, vans, parking lots, etc... Only top 10 hit was Touch...+20 years after they started. That's doin' what you do, despite success. I'm not trying to argue greatness with you, only that the role of the Dead was less about the image and glam, sought by their contemporaries, and more about the message and the vibe.

Achievement is wonderful and it takes effort to achieve, and if you care to read some more interviews it is clear that both Garcia and Weir et.al were well aware of their achievements and the hard work that obtained those achievements.

I agree with you, personally, on the point of GD musicianship. My point is, from my own life experience, effort and emotion overcome pursuit of precision and perfection. Those that love what they do are far happier and more successful than those that want to be good for the sake of being good. I just finished reading Rolling Stones's GD Collector's Guide, and I gathered from Jerry's own words, that the 'trip' wasn't about being the best, it was about expanding collective consciousness.

Actually, they were splendid musicians. Few can or could play as well as they could. Some might argue that there was never a first rate vocalist in the band, but it's near impossible to imagine anyone else singing their songs and doing them justice.

There are people in both the younger and the older generations who "don't get it". Who are we to judge who does and doesn't? It will always be that way. Be happy there are people who do understand in the younger generation. The love continues to live on and it always will, regardless whether people like you define who "get's it" or not.
