  • Just a little hint for all drummers and Buddy-fans regarding snare technique: Jim Kilpatrick

"Easily the most decorated Pipe Drummer in the world, Jim has won an astounding 18 World Drum Corps Championships, 14 as the leading drummer.

He also holds the current Champion of Champions drum corps title, which he has now won a record 15 times. ..."

  • @whity72

Just a little hint for you: Buddy Rich was musician and band leader. What in the world do you think drum competitions meant to him? NOTHING!

That's why Buddy is remembered and Jim won't be

  • @IchiTrois, untrue. If U.S. culture would be to wear skirts and having piper bands, we would know Jim as we know BR today. But BR would be a wild, loud, uncivilized idiot who plays with a horn section in a small unimportant country named Scotland and "noone" would remember him. All a matter of cultural influence in the world, $ etc. In German radio you hear maybe 10% German language, 85% songs are sung in English. The CIA f.e. had a huge influence on culture in Germany after WW2.

  • @whity72 Comparing Buddy Rich to a rudimental drum champion is like comparing a great tap dancer to a ballet star, a water skier to a snow skier, or any number of similar, yet different endeavors. Both are (were) great at what they do. Could BR beat JK in a competition? Probably not, Could JK drive a big band better the BR? Doubt it.

  • @wmjoca, yeah, different planets. :)

  • I showed this to my woman and its the first time she has shut her mouth for more than 3 minutes. Buddy is king.

  • @06aioros, for your own soul peace you should put this tune everywhere: mp3 alarm clock, oven alarm, cell phone etc. HAHA!

  • Anyway, from events like shouting at your band, mastering martial arts and finally getting a cardiac infarction you see that someone needs a high testosteron level to beat and "punish" the drum kit like Buddy did. A shy introverted drummer never ever can reach such an aggressive snare technique etc. :)

I LOVE Buddy for his answer to the doctor before his heart surgery if he was allergic against anything: "Yes, country music!"

    BUHAHAHAHH!

  • @IchiTrois i'm going to remember Jim..

  • @Tedmund13 True, but the drummer traditionally is the one member that holds the power of the beat. If a band members gets messed up, it's the drummer, not the sax player that he gets back on the beat with.

  • @metalfiend124 Oh, yeah, I forgot. Buddy Ruled!

  • @metalfiend124 Unfortunately he died at 25, and he would look for a classical or jazz guitarist in every town the band stopped to play in to get a lesson and learn more at every chance. He talked to a classical professor in an English music school one time, and it really affected him. He had planned to leave his heavy metal band to study at UCLA to study classical guitar, despite all the money. Unfortunately he died in a plane crash. At 25 he was still developing.

  • @whity72 True for Buddy, I agree. But one of my favorite rock guitarists was extremely shy, quiet, and practiced all the time. He did teach classical guitar at his Mothers music school, then play with his band later. But when he was on stage, he really turned it on, as much as buddy did. Musicians wondered how he could focus so much of his energy and talent into one thing, guitar.Randy Rhoads played rock the way Buddy played his snare. Intensely. Both have influenced me on drums, gtr.

  • @wmjoca And it all depends on what kind of music they listened to , learned from, and played. If buddy had learned drum corps, like Billy Cobham, who knows how good he would be. He came from Vaudeville, not from Drum corps.

  • @1970Drummerboy oi gimmi ur ad money and I'll give ur dog u stole back... We know u stole it

  • My father of drummer.

  • @IchiTrois LMAO Love it!!!!!
