About Philadelphia's Magic Gardens
Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (PMG) is a mosaiced folk art environment, gallery space, and nonprofit organization that protects the work of Isaiah Zagar. PMG seeks to educate the public about mosaic, folk, and public art and foster civic engagement, community beautification, and artistic collaboration. Open to visitors daily, PMG is quickly becoming a popular artistic venue, hosting concerts, dance performances, and art openings within the tiled walls year-round. Core programs that incorporate the Lowes tile donation include:

Tile & Grout: Bonding Community
Tile & Grout expands upon a pilot mural collaboration between PMG and Norris Square Neighborhood Project's summer camp classes in 2009. Focusing on community involvement, creative development, and art education, this program spans one week to six months and consists of multiple educational components. Projects can include presentations about international folk arts, PMG Tours, a personal talk with founder Isaiah Zagar, and mosaic mural instruction. Often, a teacher or mentor will receive a Zagar mosaic workshop to provide support to the PMG instructors and gain additional knowledge of mosaic methods. Tile & Grout projects culminate in a mural unveiling reception for students, their families, community members, and supporters of PMG and the school or community center; depending on the timeframe of the project, PMG can also host an exhibition of student work in our Center City gallery.

Mosaic Mural Workshops
Learn to mosaic in the method of the master! Philadelphia's Magic Gardens offers monthly workshops with the founding artist himself, Isaiah Zagar. Zagar teaches two full days of his own mosaic method for breaking tile, cutting mirror, gluing tile, and grouting. Over a weekend, students create a large-scale mosaic mural from conception to completion. Most participants are adults but older children may attend with supervision. Workshops span from March through October and usually occur the last weekend of these months.
