    Amen. Soundgarden was (is) more hard rock a la Zep. Pearl Jam more bluesy Hendrix inspired. Alice in chains more metal/rock - with some Jerry acoustic thrown in. Nirvana more punk rock. STP more Bowie/Jane's Addiction alt-rock. Etc. All "grunge" but very distinct styles - people don't appreciate that enough!
