an officer in my county was killed today while trying to use a stop stick.....he was hit by the criminal...... does not seem very safe to me

I train my department in the use of Stop Sticks and must say I have always had a problem with how the S.S. are deployed in this training video. The two problems I see are: (1) pulling the S.S. out into the road well ahead of the suspect vehicle allows the suspect driver to see and then avoid them, possibly leaving the road and driving to where the officer is located, and (2) the officer not seeking proper cover behind his car (see 0:24 to 0:28). You NEVER stand so far away from real cover.
