MP3 and tab at http://soupgreens.com/froginthewell/ . Also short cuts to use in videos and a sample pack for remixing.

This is a civil war fife and drum song that I got from Bruce and Emmet's Guide.

The guitar is an Gibson L3 made between 1918-1928. It's very rare to find such a playable one, and it had an amazing tone. Since then the arch collapsed and the tone is not nearly as good. See my "Centennial Grand March" video for another sample of this guitar.

You're welcome to use this as background music for videos.

  • Very nice ! Don't hear this tune played much except as a march. It is an old Nursery Song that came from the Appalachians, dating back to the Scotch Irish migration to that area.

  • Thanks for the back story, FeralReason.

There's a part where I give the rhythm a sharp snap like a snare drum. That was to make it sound like a march.

It's fun that this tune is both a march and a goofy singalong for kids, aka Keemo Keemo, Kimo Kimo, Froggie Went A Courting, etc. I know that tune from singalongs at summer camp as a kid and from Doc Watson's version.

  • That was Great!! One of my favorite F&D songs to play

  • Thanks man.

I love the rhythmic snap of the B section.

  • Nice, I can picture them marching on!

  • These fife and drum marching riffs are a lot of fun because they have a natural groove. I picked up a whole book of them (Drummers' and Fifers' Guide by Bruce and Emmett) after I learned this one off the net.

  • Im a civil war reenactor and i need a good song to play this song too, on the drums, this is perfecto!

  • Yep. This actually appears with "A Frog He Went A Courting" in Campbell and Sharp's 1917 "English Folk Songs from The Appalachians". It probably came across the pond in the 1700s or 1800s.

  • Thanks for up-loading this. I heard this in "Gettysburg". I thought it was a great marching song but didn't know the name of the song until now.

  • I think this song is also called Keemo Kemo.
