@xxxJezebelxxx I think what people need to do is recognize and accept that the very crimes that make them angry happened. And the very crimes that are going on currently in Philippines are embarrassing. But... get over it. They have never and won't dictate who you are. And Filipinos - if they are ashamed - need to channel that passion into something more productive for their people if they still care. If not, move on, and don't be a jerk to Filipinos with accents and cultural mannerisms.

it's a white mans world dear. most ethnics get made fun of in the media here... but imho i think indians & arabs have worst stereotypes that are more aggressive. seriously the only way to disarm those stereotypes is to go out there and make fun of them yourself like that dude russell peters does. i've never thought filipinos were a ''laughing stock'' as you said, more like fun to be around.

@xxxJezebelxxx Preach. And yes... Indians and Arabs do have a harsh stereotype. And, maybe laughing stock is the wrong term. If I could explain it better, I think some Filipinos are concerned that the cultural rape and economic implosion caused by their ineffective government could overshadow their own worth and accomplishments. It SHOULDN'T. But I know of one employer at a high-tech company in Silicon Valley, CA, who said that they get a lot of international resumes. Indians, South Africans....

@jokway they're strongly considered. Resumes from places including Philippines are pushed to the bottom of the pile. It's not right. But that's what happens, and this friend of mine told me his is not the only company in the area that does that. I do agree that Filipinos are fun to be around. Well, most of them, hahah! I hope Filipinos don't allow themselves to be filled with hopelessness b/c of stereotypes. I hope they continue to persist, b/c a person's value is only determined with time.

i was ashamed of being filipino for a long long time...especially in high school. it was only a couple of years ago that i was able to come to terms with being one in this white man's world. oh btw, ifili.com doesn't work.
