Season 1, episode 9

It was another day of rain.

Taylor walked down the street, her brown boots hitting the cement with every step she took. She was glad it was Friday and her school week was finally over, it meant more time to webcam with Chord and Abby. As another icy gust of wind blew against her face, she pulled her jacket tighter around her body which hid her tan skin. In her pocket her phone vibrated and Taylor quickened her pace, eager to get out of the cold to text back Chord. Long distance was difficult; she missed him so badly that she was having a hard time holding it together.

From behind her came the sound of footsteps, slightly faster than her own. She shrugged, dismissing it as another student from school. After all, she was still in the school parking lot. Her phone vibrated again, Abby probably.

As she turned the corner and saw her blue car in sight, a smile came onto Taylor's face. Stopping at the edge of a small walkway to let cars pass, Taylor vaguely heard someone calling out behind her.

"Hey!" The voice said again, male. Taylor looked around, seeing there was no one around her. "Me?" She asked, turning around and pointing to herself.

"Yeah, you," the boy said, coming closer. Taylor could see the smirk on his face and she tilted her head, trying to figure out why he was looking at her with an expression of arrogance. Great, she was going to be delayed going home because of some cocky boy who she didn't know.

"Okay, what?" Taylor asked, crossing her arms as a sign of defiance and slight annoyance, now that she knew that she was being delayed from her boyfriend and best friend.

"You've got attitude," he said as he stopped in front of Taylor, pulling off his hood to reveal the boy she'd seen in the café the other day.

"Oh," Taylor breathed, her eyes widening a little at the boy before her. His own eyes weren't brown after all; they were in fact a shade of hazel that took her by surprise. "Your eyes, they're..." She stopped, realizing she sounded stupid.

"What?" The boy asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Nothing," Taylor shook her head.

The boy stared at her, confusion taking over for a few seconds before his face resumed that same arrogant expression. "Hey, didn't I see you the other day? At Janie's?" He asked, pointing a finger at Taylor as he tried to remember. She looked vaguely familiar, that curly blonde hair.

"Didn't anybody ever teach you not to point?" Was all Taylor said, trying to figure him out. Was he being nice? Had he seen her from across the parking lot, and chased her down because he recognized her? Or was he another arrogant teenager who wanted nothing but a fun time?

"I think it was you," the boy said, grin spreading over his face. Still arrogant looking. He held Taylor's gaze for a few seconds before she shook her head and turned around, heading towards her car again.

"Hey, wait up!" He said, catching up to her. "Aren't you going to tell me your name?"

Taylor sighed, her fingers wrapping around her phone in her pocket, hopelessly wanting to text Chord back. "What do you want, mystery boy? And we're not on a first name basis."

The boy chuckled, shoving his hands into his pocket. "Mystery boy? That's the best you can come up with?" He laughed again, shaking his head at Taylor like he was disappointed in her. "I'm Joe, by the way. Now we're on a first name basis."

Taylor rolled her eyes, reaching her car and fishing out the keys. "Correction, {you're} on a first name basis. I'm still not. Now are you going to tell me what you want?"

"Were you at Janie's on Sunday?" He prodded, watching her unlock the doors. "And fine, don't tell me your name. But can you give me a ride? My car broke down the other day." Joe put on his best puppy dog face.

Taylor was slightly appalled. "You want a ride? I don't even know you," she ignored his question about Janie's for the second time. "And you're going to have to work on that puppy dog face," she added, opening her car door and giving him one last look.

"Aw c'mon," Joe said. "Don't be heartless," he half-joked. "Or I'll think you're cold."

She squinted her eyes, sighing deeply as she started the engine. "And you're a jerk," she said, shutting the door and rolling down the window. "Now step away from the car before I run you over."

Joe obliged, stepping about a foot away from Taylor's car, watching her as she pulled out of her parking space. She sighed again as she saw him watching her. Even standing out in the cold, his cocky expression had returned. She'd been right; he was just another arrogant teenager. He'd never fit into her life.

What'd you think? :-)
