Baba Diawara - Season 08/09

Papa Babacar Diawara, also known as Baba Diawara (born January 5, 1988 in Senegal), is a footballer who currently plays as a striker for Marítimo.

Diawara started his career in his native Senegal for Premier League side Jeanne d´Arc before moving to Europe to sign for Marítimo. Having rose to prominence in the clubs' B team. Diawara found himself promoted to the first team at the end of the 20072008 season and became a permanent fixture in the team for the 20082009 season, scoring 10 goals in 17 games (up to March 16, 2009).

His goalscoring antics have attacted the attention of several clubs, including Marítimo's league rivals Sporting, Greek champions Olympiacos FC and Scottish champions Celtic, however the latter club being put off by Marítimo's £2.5 million (€2.75 million) valuation of the player.
