Love this. "Shalyapin" is probably the best transliteration of the name into English,
but is referred to more often as Chaliapin. Copy the Russian in the title into a search engine. Despite the less than perfect recordings of long ago, I like him above all other later Bass singers. Love the timbre of his voice. To me his expression and acting skills have never been surpassed by anyone. In over forty years of listening, he is the best!

Thank you for your beautiful videos of Chaliapine. I see you put tags with 3 transliterations of his name. Is "Chaliapine" (French) the standard one? Is there a standard transliteration? Sometimes it is hard to find him using search engines because of this.

The tradition, I think, depends on the present cultural preferences and on the general used language. - Once it was French.
As linguist You know the rules of transliteration. But, You are right - it is difficult to find all the videos with this name, especially with its original way of writing.
