aw the rider's helping! I really don't like when I see champions get off after their horse gives them the best performance ever and they just hand them off to a bunch of grooms.
Just curious - did you notice whether they were using just plain water or liniment? Liniment would have smelled minty...

At the end, they use mainly plain water. It is time for cool down of the horse. Then they go back to the barn (after a vet check) and treat their horses like the athletes they are with ice, liniments, and any other correct treatment they can provide so the horse is ready to compete on the next morning, after the final vet check. No horse goes if it is not sound. Yes, they take very good care of their horses.
