This video serves as a bit of a precursor of something I want to start up soon. Still haven't decided whether I'm going to use just my computer or the actual cart for this. Leaning towards the emulator for ease of recording.

Still also have to figure out how to do commentary.

Equipment for this video -
Mario (L27):
Lazy Shell
Lazy Shell
Jinx Belt

Peach (L26):
Frying Pan
Royal Dress
Safety Ring

Geno (L26):
Star Gun
Hero's Cape
Safety Badge

Strategy -
(note: You don't ABSOLUTELY need the Lazy Shell armor on Mario. This is mainly so that he can survive some of the stronger attacks like Corona and Dark Star and I don't have to bother reviving/rebuffing him when he dies along with Geno.)

It's best to have around 4-5 Rock Candies before this fight, so Peach can be doing damage. The main problem in this fight are the Crystals surrounding Culex, since they cast a LOT of magic, including Corona, Boulder, and Water Spray.

You can use Geno Boost if you want to buff Mario (which I did in this video), but Culex can and will use Shredder in this battle, which nulls everything. If you've been leveling with a focus on POW, you should still be doing 250 damage regardless of Lazy Shell/buffing. After that, just have Geno constantly use Geno Blast/Flash (Blast works just as well for less FP, but if you want to use Flash, by all means), restoring your FP with Royal Syrups when necessary. When Peach isn't using Group Hug or Come Back, have her throw Rock Candies. If you can time some freebies in there, all the better. Mario should focus on Culex himself, since the Crystals SEEM to have very high defense (I'm going to test this sometime).

This video was recorded using an actual cart of Super Mario RPG. DO NOT ask me where to find a ROM of this game. Use Google if you really want it.

Sorry for the long delay at the end of the video. I was just so glad to finally beat him that I had to sit there for a second, then fumble for the Stop Recording. Nothing wrong with a little extra FFIV victory theme, though.

  • @r4shka Actually, he really does have the FFIV boss music. It's an easter egg from Square.

  • What? In the actual game Culex has the FFIV Boss Theme? I think you've got bootlegged there!
