The reason ppl do not connect the negative cable to the negative post is simple bc a dead battery produces hydrogen gas which is HIGHLY explosive And has been known to kill ppl over a simple jumpstart That's why the connect to a ground AWAY FROM THE BATTERY to prevent this from happening. Research this I learned this automotive school and am certified in electrical. IN FACT THIS VIDEO IS WRONG THIS IS NOT THE PROPER WAY TO THIS. Don't believe it ask the deale
@SILVERADO06SS1 in the car with the good battery its fine just to hook up the cable to the terminal on the battery, not a lot of risk their. but for the car with the dead battery you just need to find a chunk of metal that you can attach the cable to as far away from the battery as possible. so the remote terminal is fine. good question :)
@The240Project hey what about the REMOTE terminals alot of these newer cars have can u use those in the car with the GOOD battery and also can u use those in the car with the BAD battery?????
@SILVERADO06SS1 this is so you don't create a spark between the two cables igniting the gas inside the battery.. if this happens and you are near it while it explodes it, needless to say, wont be a very fun experience. it is sometimes hard to find a good ground you can get too on some new cars though, so the terminal is always a final resort.
WHY DO SOME PEOPLE PUT THE NEGATIVE CABLE TO A METAL PART OF THE CAR WITH THE BAD BATTERY RATHER THAN TO THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL ITSELF?????????????????
either look for the markings or of they aren't visible ,the positive is always hot/red and carries the thicker insulation. Should also hv the thicker post.

And this video was from the enterprise which should know something about vehicles... Even a simple basic thing seems to be too tricky.
How about a career change.. I'd recommend a liquor store or a bar for party animals
