NYC Protest 12/28/2008

ISRAEL'S ONSLAUGHT against the Palestinian population of Gaza continues to take a terrible toll.

The relentless pounding from the skies is drastically worsening already dire conditions caused by Israel's suffocating siege of the last 18 months. Yet as the new year began, Israel dismissed proposals for even a 48-hour cease-fire--and instead broadened its offensive.

Israel's attack has stirred outrage around the world. But among U.S. political leaders--from the Republican Bush administration to the Democratic leaders in Congress--there is unanimous support for Israel's war, and universal acceptance of the claim that Hamas, the Islamist party that won elections to the Palestinian National Assembly nearly three years ago, is "to blame for the violence."

  • The people of Gaza have every right to resist. Israel has been engaging in collective punishment of Gaza since Gaza committed the crime of democratically electing Hamas. Israel has maintained a blockade of Gaza which has denied the people everything from school supplies, to oil, food, and medicine. Israel, in fact, has attacked the West Bank in the same way, in spite of the fact that the West Bank fired no rockets into Israel (so, obviously this isnt about rocksts). Long Live the Intifada!

  • The West Bank has left Israel alone, and Israel has left the West Bank alone.

I guess Hamas in Gaza still hasn't gotten the hint.

  • actually, the west bank has left Israel alone and still it has come under the iron fist of Israel. It proves that the seize of Gaza had nothing to do with Hamas rockets

  • @NYCTeacher1 "democratically electing Hamas".....a terrorist organization and nothing more. The Palestinians should be absorbed by Egypt, or Jordan or Iran or Syria.........Jerusalem has never been theirs.....it has belonged to Israel for centuries.......the wailing wall is proof of that because it is the ruins of the old temple of Solomon and the old city of Jerusalem. Israel was attacked by five Islamic nations and defeated them in 1967, why should they give up what is theirs?

  • @dmhtuber By that logic, London should be handed over to modern-day Italians because of the presence of Roman ruins and Muslims all over the world are justified in claiming Spain as theirs because of its Moorish history. I am sure you ONLY apply your logic, however, to Palestine.

  • @NYCTeacher1 they should free palestine and kill every muslim in the world, then there would be a world of peace

  • Just over half the wall, dates from the end of the Second Temple period, having been constructed around 19 BCE by Herod the Great. The remaining layers were added from the 7th century onwards. The Western Wall refers not only to the exposed section facing a large plaza in the Jewish Quarter, but also to the sections concealed behind structures running along the whole length of the Temple Mount, such as the Little Western Wall–a 25 ft (8 m) section in the Muslim Quarter.
