ZHANG:
And in Taiwan, President Ma Ying-jeou met briefly with a Chinese official in one of the highest-level contacts between the two sides since the Chinese civil war on Thursday. This comes while thousands of anti-Chinese Communist Party protesters took to the streets in Taipei.
President Ma met China's top Taiwan affairs negotiator, Chen Yunlin. Chen has already signed agreements opening up trade and transportation between the two sides.
Ma says he wants to see more high-level exchanges and said the two sides should not "mutually deny" each other's existence.
Ma is under pressure at home to be politically tough on China while improving Taiwan's sagging economy by getting a piece of the Mainland's markets.
