Dionne Warwick's version was the one i used to play then,...but Aretha has captured how i felt when i lost the only girl i have truely loved, and even today 46 years on.. i have never felt the way i did then.

What I like about this version is that I can actually picture the event. Aretha is not just singing. She's painting a clear picture with her voice. It's amazing. I can see the boy approaching and the girl needing him to walk on by.

Aretha can sing circles around Dionne, but this song is Dionne's, and even Aretha can't top Dionne's version. Aretha's soul and distinctive voice seems to get lost in this song.
