I ahve come to understand why people like saddam run these countries. They need someone that ruthless to control the population. If they have to cut your hands off for stealing that says somthing. @ComradeLenin1289 Dude, his dictatorship wasn't neccessarily the shitiest. Saddam was NOTHING compared to dictators like Ayatollah Khomeini and his predecessor, and the King of Saudi Arabia, try telling me that they are any better. He was much more patriotic than those who came after him.

On the one hand, Iraq back then was a truly independent secular modernized state. On the other, it was one of the shittiest dictatorships of the modern world, ruled by a genocidal racist mass-murdering madman. I think it would have been best if the Iraqi people had overthrown Saddam (as they tried in 1991), rather than the U.S conquering Iraq and adding it to its empire.
