Is there only one actual protein maolecule in a chromosome that contains all the genes, & that is wound around so much, OR are there many??

Each chromosome is composed of one, very long, piece of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The genes are spread out along that DNA. Note that DNA and protein are different and the actual genetic material is DNA, not protein. The DNA IS wound around proteins as part of the packaging process.
