  • so the asymtote is the number the line will never touch or cross in this case 0 (x)

  • @beekaykilla ---- Correct... the equation for the asymptote is y=0 in this case.

  • You can choose any x values to base the Y values off?

  • @kpvids2 --- Yes, but some x values work better than others. In this case, if you picked x values less than -2, your y values would quickly get higher and higher and go off the grid. If you picked x values greater than 2, the y values would be fractions with larger and larger denominators, and they would be difficult to graph.

  • why is the equation y=0?

  • @STEALINGSOUP --- the equation for horizontal lines is ' y= ' the y-intercept. In this case, we want a horizontal line that crosses the y-axis at 0, so the equation is y=0. Same thing for vertical lines, except it is ' x= '
