  • Rabbit Hole alert... this just in on BBC. Rallies staged in Pakistan organized by Sunni Muslim clerics to protest a bill to change the blasphemy laws. which currently carries a mandatory death sentence for anyone who insults Islam which I imagine doesn’t take much to achieve. Needless law is often used to persecute religious minorities with more than 30 accused have been killed by lynch mobs. Looks look 2011 is off to great start. Nice place Pakistan and the Muslim world. Happy New Year

  • i am related to john chard !!!!

  • @NGC773 Well said.

  • @ImperialistRunningDo Any new info?

  • I wish the photos were arranged and timed to correspond to Burton's

    narration.

  • men of great courage

  • James Dalton a retired quartermaster and at the battle acting comissioner, is regarded to have done most of the organising and tactics for the battle, but the honour was passed onto Chard and Broomhead, as they were seen by the British tabloids at the time as of more honourable stock.

  • Broomhead and Chard the two officers credited in the movie Zulu as the principal organisers of the defence of the mission, were not the clean shaven brilliant soldiers depicted, both had heavy facial hairm Chard a moustache and Broomhead a moustache and mutton chop sideburns that joined onto his moustache.

Chard was regarded widely as lazy, and Broomhead as ineffectual because of his bad hearing.

  • The regimental men did not have sparkling white pith helmets or were clean shaven with groomed moustaches as depicted in the movie Zulu, their pith helmets were stained brown with tea or coffee, and most of the men were heavily bearded, Broomhead and Chard the two officers credited in the movie Zulu as the principal organisers of the defence of the mission

  • They did not retreat from the battle honouring the regimental courage as depicted in the movie Zulu, but because of the sighted relief coming fast to the aid of the regiment.

There was no sing off between the regiment and the Zulus as depicted in the movie Zulu, the regiment also were not firing Lee Enfield .303's as shown in the movie Zulu, they were firing Henry Martini rifles, the MLE did not come into production until 1885.
