RC Seaplane Greatest Hits, Splashes and Crashes!!

This is a ST Models Sea Captain. I thought the sloppy take off and landings would be more entertaining than the good ones! A lot of the rough landings was filmed while range testing after the receiver got soaked and i only had a range of less than 100 feet, so i had to take off and quickly land before i lost complete control. Most of these clips were filmed while test flying it, and still very out of trim (Tail heavy) resulting in unstable flight, high stall speed and a unrecoverable tip stall at low speed. Adding weight in the nose made it more stable in flight but harder to get airborne on take off, and vice versa when moving the c of g backwards. Getting a fine balance and working out its 'gremlins' took time, but nothing beats the feeling of a greaser of a landing on water!!

is the airplane really that squirrely or bad piloting? I have considered buying that plane but now I'm not so sure.

@sailrjim - If you read the information included on the right, you will find the clips i used was when i had radio range problems, and the aircraft was way out of trim. I have lots of footage of it flying great, but i thought the bad stuff was more exciting. This video is for entertainment only, and not a review of the model, although i still wouldnt recommend buying one.

If you are willing to mod the plane, you should add a rear tire and 2 tires in the floats and if your REALLY willing to mod the plane add a gear box in the engine housing!

I have to say that for an amphib it seems pretty forgiving, these planes can be bears to even take off, this on seem ok.....I haven't seen it do the cartwheel that alone is a miracle even for an experienced pilot
