This 1980 rock arrangement of the Toccata (from Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor BWV 565) attained No. 6 positions in the UK pop singles chart for that year. It comes from the album 'Sky 2' by the band Sky (using the original Sky lineup of John Williams, Herbie Flowers, Kevin Peek, Tristan Fry, and Francis Monkman). The recording uses keyboards, guitars and percussion, but this contemporary published piano arrangement is remarkably faithful to the album version.

  • awesome!

wish I could play like that!

  • @RICKROLLBLENDER Maybe you can - or could! Or maybe you have the potential to be better!

  • This is a superb piece and you played it amazingly!!! Where abouts did you get the music for this as I'd love to have a go at this

  • @Seer73 I found it in a charity shop. I'm sure it must still be in print somewhere.

  • I *love* this!!!! Toccata has always been one of my favourite Sky pieces, so thank you, you are an inspiration!!! :-)

  • @ShedeasVideos Thank you for that - I'm glad you enjoyed it, and hope you didn't find it as wooden as the previous commentator!

  • @PSearPianist No, definitely not, I loved your rendition of Toccata! :-) Personally if I don't like something I go elsewhere. I don't see any point in negative criticism unless it's towards those who damage the environment or are cruel to animals etc. I believe it's as simple as this, that Symphynity would have been quieter if your recording had been louder ;-)

  • @symphynity This is of course a piano transcription of the Sky version, and is not in any way an attempt to provide a transcription of Bach's original with reference to the Sky version. As the Sky version is quite mechanical in its rhythms, so must mine be!

  • Whilst I enjoyed your ability to be able to play this most taxing piece , it was undoubtedly technically correct ,but , to my ears, it had a wooden feel to it. Obviously very hard to translate this piece to the piano, from the Grand Pipe Organ , to the modern feel of SKY, please relax , and get a feel for the piece.

but 100 out of 100 for hitting all the right notes!

(PS: I cannot read a note of music!).

  • @mrhonestlyspeaking Thanks very much for the kind comment - the first I have ever had from Borneo, a place that we in the UK particularly associate with orangutans. I can't send you the music for copyright reasons, but I suggest you do Google searches on the title, and you may find it somewhere.
