OTTO is a new musical instrument for beat-slicing, the technique that allows to create complex and variegated rhythm sections by using just one rhythmic audio sample, cutting it into little pieces and rearranging them in time. OTTO provides a hardware solution with a strong visual feedback, to allow the musician to control the audio sample as if it was in his hands.

  • The flow is the following. Once I start the sample I also start a loop in Ableton live via rewire. Then, as you said, I turn up the volume to work on the drum beat. Thanks a lot.

  • That's soo awesome!

  • amazing, i love seeing these innovative beat making thingamajigs such as the awesome monome

  • Complimenti Luca, è davvero notevole OTTO come "interaction design".

Stavo già pensando da diverso tempo di iscrivermi alla specialistica allo IUAV e questo non fa che confermare i miei pensieri.

Non vedo l'ora di seguire i prossimi sviluppi :)

  • really cool, what is the switch on the top... and is there something on the side where your right hand is?

  • one man wrecking crew.

  • Are there two samples playing? Drum beat and the melodic plucks, and then you turn up the volume of the drum beat on the top slider? This looks truly astonishing! Very creative.
