I didn't know anything about free software until one day my computer ( which ran XP ) stopped working, I knew it was the OS but I didn't have the money to buy a new one, then using Google I arrived to Ubuntu's homepage, after installing it I began to use computers for better things and at a new level.

Thank you Linus for making Linux.

haha.. well its was in 2003. My teacher and a classmate were talking about linux and i said well linux doesnt have alot of functions compared with windows (did'nt even know what linux was) And sinds 2008 im using it full time. I REGRET ONLY ABOUT ONE THING!!. And that is not switching to it sooner that would save me alot of headaches with the problems i got from my windows computer.

It was a loooong time i ago i went into a big computer store and was just checking out the programs that they had. next to i think a windows 98 installation CD set, they had another box that was black with a red hat on it and it said red hat linux. I looked at it and thought it was a game or something but it didn't look like a game.So after staring at it long enough I kind of figured it was something like windows. that was like early 2000nds. then in 2004 i friend gave me Hardy heron ubuntu .

It was last year!! My life was miserable without MS Words and Excel to work on the homeworks and papers from my professors. Then I found OpenOfficeOrg; I was in total shock. So then I discovered about Linux, its ideas and took a 4 month course on it. It just made me crave to know more and more about how computers function. I hope to God I will be able to continue working with it...

The first time I heard about Linux was in 8th grade when some server admins were discussing it in an online game. I googled it, and someone, jokingly, recommended Gentoo as a first distro. I burned a CD, and was unable to partition my harddrive. I wasn't reintroduced to Linux until a year later, when my house got robbed. They stole all the computers except a linux computer my mom accidentally bought. It had Linspire installed, which I quickly replaced with Ubuntu, but now I use slackware.

must have been late 90's when we had are first computer that in 97 like a year after that i found somthing online about Linux then later in about 2002 i was at a friends house and his uncle had it running and i was like wow whats that and he showed me after that all i wanted to do was install Linux i did and never looked back people at high school idnt understand me when i said Linux or the ones who did said i didnt know how to use it and that i didnt have it lol

In 1992. I'm from Finland. Linus Torvalds in a finn. However shame that i first time installed it as late as 1999 and started regularly use it just 2 years ago.
