The start to the race from the Royal Malta Yacht Club premises in Manoel Island, Malta on Saturday 20th October 2007. The start was given at 11.00am and 57 yachts out of the 60 registered started the race. The first yacht to take the line honours was the 90 foot super-maxi Rambler from the USA, smashing the previous 7 year record for the course by an impressive 16hours. Unfortunately, the Australian yacht Loki found itself in difficulties when it lost its rudder north of Golfo di Castallamare to the west of Palermo. The Italian coastguard lifted the crew to safety by helicopter.
