David Hayes, President Obama's Deputy Secretary of the Interior, discusses American's political role in deforestation. "How about us showing the way? Exporting our know-how, our technology, and helping develop a sustainable and credible ...for the world to follow."

Thomas Lovejoy, in conversation with David Hayes, discuss future strategies in managing planet Earth and the issue of climate change, in a program entitled Re-Greening the Emerald Planet. - Aspen Institute

David J. Hayes is US deputy secretary of the Interior. He was nominated for the position after serving on President Obamas Transition Team, heading the agency-review process for the Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture, Department of the Interior, and Environmental Protection Agency. Hayes works directly on Western water rights, federal land management, implementation of the Endangered Species Act, and issues involving the national parks and Indian tribes. Prior to joining the administration, Hayes was the global chairman of Latham & Watkins Environment, Land, and Resources Department. He also served as a senior fellow for the World Wildlife Fund, focusing on forestry and biodiversity issues. He was also a consulting professor at Stanford Universitys Woods Institute for the Environment. Hayes previously worked at the Interior Department under President Clinton, serving as deputy secretary and counselor to the secretary.

  • Get out of here, the USA does not have any moral ground to ask other countries to do anything until the internal environmental problems are addressed. Coal, gas, waste, fix that first and then you can try to advice someone else.

  • "In fact, one of the earths largest producers of C02 is vegetation, (particularly dying leaves, etc.)"

Decomposing biomass does not release CO2 directly into the athmosphere, instead it is re-absorbed by the soil, restarting the carbon cycle. It is biomass *combustion* (like burning coal) what causes CO2 to be release to the athmosphere directly, having a direct impact on athmosphere's warming. The global carbon budget already accounts for decomposing plants, but not for human-burnt coal.

  • "The cheapest way to stop global climate change is not converting to

solar power or buying a hybrid car. It's putting on a condom.

That's the conclusion of a London School Of Economics study showing money spent on contraception is five times more efficient than money spent on clean energy technologies. It backs up a recent Oregon State University study tha

t concludes overpopulation and massive immigration is the single biggest threat to the environment." NUMBERSUSA(DOT)COM

  • The facts do not change: the conclusions derived from the facts do, when we add more evidence and make additional research and observations. In order to discuss rationally, you simply have to keed adding facts into the discussion and derive conclusions from them. That is the scientific and rational way of doing things.

  • What are the facts? They keep changing.

  • You are copying-pasting a previous post as a reply to me, even though you have called me a troll? I have already addressed the rest of the solar system temperature changes in a previous post, so read and reply to that. What I have not addressed is your reference to Lindzen. I have been reading and this is a summary: He acknowledges that the Earth is warming. He acknowldeges that human actions contribute to that up to 30%. When asked about the consequences, he says: we don't know. cont...

  • HUNDREDS of top scientists, including the highly respected Richard Lindzen of MIT, signed onto the CATO petition outlining how the Global Warming politics is a fraud

Rehm Emanuel, White House chief of staff, never let a serious crisis go to waste Its an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before

Are our SUV emissions causing the receding polar ice caps of Mars, (several miles a year & much faster than earths), & the melting of the moons of Saturn & Jupiter?

  • it's more like if there is some thing going on in the solar system ie. gravitational shift, solar flares dying down. i am sure that C12 foot prints are not going to make matters any better....

  • :-)

I fail to see how earth's climate could affect the solar system... but I am on your side on climate change. Tip'o'the hat sir, my misunderstanding.

  • no i am completely in the know of the human cause of climate change, the fact that it is affecting the other parts of the solar system is purely coincidental....

  • Haha, perhaps I misinterpreted which side of the argument your comment was directed toward. I accept the evidence for man-made climate change, I'd like to be certain what claim you stand for before I "posture". Cheers, hail science. ;-)
