Paichai Haktang is the oldest and pestigious school in Korea. It was founded in 1885 by Rev. Henry G. Appenzeller, the first American Methodist missionary to Korea. He was born in Pennsylvania and studied at Drew University.
The name of Paichai was bestowed by King Kojong of Chosun dynasty.
Paichai means "cultivating men of ability" and Haktang, "school".
As a Christian school, Paichai has a motto of "Whoever would be great among you must be your servant" from Matthew 20:26.
Now Paichai Haktang consists of Paichai Middle School,Paichai High School and Paichai University....
