The Walls of Steel is held annually at the Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club in Northwestern Rhode Island. The shooter has an option of shooting in four divisions (Stock Auto, Open Auto, Stock Revolver, Open Revolver) through 6 all-steel stages (with stage round totals averaging between 25-30 rounds). Most of our squad shot 2 guns each, with each gun shot either in the morning or the afternoon. I shot open first myself, before switching over to my stock gun after lunchtime.
Personally, I'm glad I went with Open first. Most of us had abysmal 2nd round results...
I am very happy I decided to shoot this match. It was up to the point, very relaxing/informal, our squad went through very smoothly, and we all got to get our butts whooped by steel. Seeing how super fun this match was, I'm curious to see how much I would enjoy shooting steel matches like the Pro-Am or Steel Challenge...
Some things to note, yes my reloads were horrendous. I attempted (quite poorly I might add) to count the amount of rounds I was shooting downrange so that I wouldn't run my gun dry. However, once a "master plan" failed, all the counting also failed. At least this match got me into a situation where I would actually reload with an open gun...this is the only time I would have to reload more than once, thank god. :)
I'm looking forward to shooting this match next year...if all-steel matches were like this, I might actually enjoy shooting these white metal things.
Can you choose to shoot just the event that runs iron sights or do you have to shoot both?

@Mattypphillip - You don't need to shoot both. You have an option of shooting Iron Auto, Iron Revolver, Open Auto, Open Revolver. You can shoot up to two of them so if you have an Ironsighted Semi and an Ironsighted Revolver, you can do both. If you want to just shoot a revolver open, that's fine too. Each event takes half a day (with two guns/events it's the whole day). It's a one-day event, very simple format and fun to boot!

How far are the targets?

@ryusekai - Probably one 10-15 yards away, not far at all....but the targets themselves get pretty small! :)
