AR15 vs MINI-14 MINI-14 wins

The Mini-14 shoots a wide variety of ammo, and it shoots some pretty wide ass groups too!

It's all a matter of preference, but in general most popular AR's will fire at least 1 moa (most sub moa). Only your best (modern) Mini's will even fire 1 moa.
Other than that, it's a matter of practicality...
You want a dependable, small game hunting rifle... get a mini-14
You want a light, rugged combat rifle... get an AR

I do agree that the Mini 14 may not be the "best," but you need to include reliabilty, weight, ease of use, etc., instead of only considering accuracy. The Ruger Mini 14 is a really great gun. It may not produce a 1 inch group from 100 yards, BUT I bet I could put a few bullets in a dudes torso from a hundred yards, and I would dare say it probably won't jam either. The Mini 14 may not be the most accurate, but for my money it is accurate enough, and it NEVER jams. YMMV

@ankazakov How the FUCK is that a 'test' of a rifle when it is completely pristine conditions? I bet you are a benchrest shooter and think thats what shooting really means. Please.
Rifles are supposed to be versatile, not a SNIPER rifle.

I thought you would have a honest review, but no. You have a bias view on the mini 14, you fanboy. THUMBS DOWN!

early to mid 90's mini 14 with the lighter barrel sucked. It is a problem that for the most part has been corrected. Now I don't think they are tack drivers but then again I wouldn't say that about any semi-auto.
If I were to compare this rifle to anything it would be an AK74. They are both decent rifles with open sights that will always go bang when you pull the trigger even if you have not kept up on the cleaning or have stored it behind the seat of your truck for a while.

Ive got one of each, I can shoot 1" groups @100 yards with a unmagnified EOtech on the ar. The best I can get from the Mini is 5" with a 9 Power scope. IMO, Mini 14's are for suckers and mine is for sale!

@hobosapien081 BUT YOU SEE, i dont have time for that. ITS A FACT , that direct impingement gas operated rifles are INHERENTLY FAR MORE ACCURATE than piston systems. PERIOD. I could show you a 3/4 inch group from 100 yards. easily

@JayCrims0n as far as light combat style rifle the mini is lighter than Ar's of the same size. I bought a mini because it looked good have a great record and when i go to the range I never see them

I am not going the argue between the two because to me a gun is like a car, If its the gun you like and the gun you want you will take the time learn it and learn to shoot it.
I have put over 2,000 rounds through my mini tact and never had a jam or miss fire and I clean the barrel every 1500 rounds or so.
I have seen many AR's and Ak's jam when we go out shooting my Dragunov jams too (bad clips is my thought there)

@warnyou you cant compare 2 guns if you only shoot one of them

@wildbill6976 it was my buddy Master Sgt Lee in Afganistan that used the DPMS I shot when he got home. Still on 1.5 MOA after 2,000 rds. In 90-91 we didn't have that option. Not even sure DPMS and the others were around then. Imagine they were, but ours were standard issue Colt and had sand issues. He had his DPMS shipped on his 4th tour in 2 yrs and 4 weeks (crazy rotation - sees psych now, like a good half these guys). Said good reliability with it. Was up in mountains with mortar team.
Yeah right........ Your idea of going shooting is turning on your Nintendo and playing duck hunt. ........Next.......

Both have their place, but a mini is FAR from the best semi auto ever built. A true test is to get both rifles, bench rested, shoot at 100 yards then compare groups. There is good reason you do not see many minis at 3 gun and AR are plenty with AK variants being second. Those rifles run 1000+ malfunction free rounds w/o cleaning. I would be willing to help you do that comparison if you are ever in SoCal or Arizona. And for the sake of everything that doesn't suck, un-tapco phuck that rifle!

@ankazakov
