since 1950 using this cars in Costa Rica, great off road cars, that's how you use a Land Rover.

you are right. defenders are ASSEMBLED in S.A and also AUS. however each vehicle is shiped over as KD (knocked down) on a pallet from the uk and then "put together" at a BMW plant. in the case of the SA-KD anyway.

defender... the only land rover I have any respect for, except the new ones, but I wouldnt trust any vehicle except a Land Cruiser for any kind safari or exploration trip
