I became frustrated often hearing that unfeathered paddles, including the Greenland paddle, can't be used for high angle strokes and that the reason for a feathered paddle is that it is the only way to do a proper forward stroke. So off the top of my head, in one take, between getting home from work and dinner, I did this video. Don't get me wrong. Feathered paddling does work. But so does unfeathered paddling, and with so much misinformation out there, I felt it needed to be explained.

  • Duane any chance you could shoot another video making the canted stroke very clear to people? I personally have found all the written content confusing and would love to "see" the way the stroke is to be used. Cheers!

  • @ccrowhurst Christopher, I'd like to do a bunch of short instructional videos, but then I'd have to put a bunch of work into it, like you did on your website.

  • Nice job Duane. l have instinctively released control hands like this and been corrected to keep a grip on my paddle. Nice to know my inherent instinct was right. Thanks for the demo.

  • Really cool, thanks for this! Always great to see a little more GP instructio'n online anyway. Will have a look at my high angle stroke and see whether or not I'm relaxing the top hand or not. Cheers!

  • Fabulous video Duane!

    Thanks for sharing your insights.
