Railfanning The Junction At Joliet Union Depot. Joliet, IL. 4/27/09.

I returned to the diamonds of Joliet once again. It feels like forever since I last railfanned around here. Here is a line-up of trains caught before I saw the UP Officer's Special, which was the entire reason I came out here today.

Train 1- BNSF #4616 and a Warbonnet lead a doublestack intermodal East to Chicago.

Train 2- This train sure has changed since I last saw it. Lincoln Service 300, the first Northbound Amtrak of the day runs with a cabbage in the lead, two P42s and an extra car.

Train 3- Metra Rock Island District Train 503 atrives into Joliet Union Station 1 minute behind schedule. This is the end of the line for the Westbound Rock Island Trains. Never thought I'd say it's great to see a Metra F40. theyre all scheduled to be repainted into a new scheme (like on the MP36s) and rebuilt to new specs down in Paducah, KY.

Train 4- With Cab Car 8566 now leading, Metra Rock Island 508 departs Joliet for Chicago LaSalle Street Depot.

Train 5- The sun comes out just in time for this UPS Hi-Priority Z-Train led by four GE's. Check out the Swoosh-painted C44-9W!

Train 6- Southbound Amtrak Lincoln Service Train 303 arrives almost an hour late into Joliet. In fact, it was so late it had to back up and wait for Train 302 to pass which was only minutes away. This is done because further down, the line is single track.

Train 7- A Heritage 1 painted Dash-9 brings up the point on this SVC Guaranteed Service Q-Train.

Train 8- Over an hour late 303 departs Joliet. 302 is right around the corner and meets 303 just South of the depot.

When and where did you hear about the Metra F40s scheduled to be repainted?? This is news to me, I'm a huge fan of Metra's F40 fleet.

Amtrak never did that, I stand on the platform in Roseville all the time and nobody tells me to stop taking pictures and video

So I take it that people are still allowed to take pictures and video from the station platform? The last I heard, Amtrak put in place their "law" prohibiting photography from their platforms. I was hoping this really didn't appy to Joliet since it's a railfan hotspot and I'll be heading out to Illinois for my summer railfanning trip.
