Date: Dec. 17th 2011. This is a pull-over of some guy I witnessed near the middle of Tucson Arizona (corner of Speedway and Campbell) by a completely stealthed out "cop car". Other than fully concealed lights, this thing was totally "plain wrapper" right down to non-government license plates. There would be no way to tell this is an actual cop if he tried to pull you over. If you were alone in a remote area, getting pulled over by this thing would be terrifying. You'd have a choice between driving somewhere populated and risk getting beaten/tased/whatever for pissing a cop off, or pulling over and risking rape/robbery/murder if a local lunatic tricked out a normal car like this for about $200 in parts.
Nobody should have to make that choice.
At 2min in he challenges me by asking who I am. I reply with "local guy" and he doesn't push it further.
The guy being pulled over had no problem with me afterwards and we had a pleasant conversation...he even offered me a ride home. Turns out he was mostly let off with a warning plus a minor fix-it ticket.
Here's the core issue: there has to be a clear separation between "cop" and "robber". When you blur the lines between the two, you get insanity like the Jose Guerena shooting, also here in Tucson at the hands of the Sheriff's SWAT team earlier this year. Tucson PD has chosen to seriously degrade public safety for the "upside" of a bit more revenue from speeding tickets and the like. This is absolutely sickening.
Video was taken with a 4G T-Mobile cellphone uploading streaming video to a server in Sweden (Bambuser dot com) which means even if the cop had smashed the phone/camera, the video would be preserved. Gear was supplied as part of a copwatching project by the Pima County Libertarian Party.
too bad only cops can buy caprices
