TARA's Sailing to Britain 2009 Montage

A montage of still and moving images, set to the haunting music of Nitin Sawhney. This video will give viewers a taste of the sights and sounds which will be explored during TARA's summer project for 14 - 22 year olds.
The project runs until 2012, when the final performance will be on a boat sailing down the River Thames!
Sailing to Britain will be a new piece of theatre inspired by the Lascars, who were African and Asian sailors who worked on British ships. Many of them settled in London and participants of the project will be exploring their stories and uncovering hidden facts. People taking part will then be able to decide which of their findings they want to turn into a short performance, and will decide the style and content of the show.
Sailing to Britain is FREE, and is open to anyone aged 14 22.
This is a great opportunity to meet new people and discover new areas of London during the Summer Holidays. You will get the chance as a team to create an innovative and exciting piece of theatre.
This summer we are running 3 workshops in Croydon, Greenwich and at TARA Studio.
The dates are:
TASTER WORKSHOP
Saturday 20th June at 10am 12am at GREENWICH THEATRE
Saturday 20th June at 3pm 5pm at CROYDON CLOCKTOWER
Sunday 21st June at 10am 12am at TARA STUDIO
This is a chance to come along and get a feel for what the project will be like.
MAIN WORKSHOPS
Saturday 25th July Friday 7th August, 10am 4pm at CROYDON CLOCKTOWER
Monday 10th Friday 21st August, 10am 4pm at TARA STUDIO
Wednesday 19th Saturday 29th August, 10am 4pm at GREENWICH THEATRE
Week 1: Will be spent exploring the Lascars in London, including trips on the Thames and workshops.
Week 2: Will be spent creating a show to perform to friends and family on the last afternoon.
