I remember beating this game and the ending just left me with a scratching head feeling. I would have been cooler to see a different ending style.

wow, the memories. I wasn about 9 or 10 years old when I got this form y NES. I think I still have the game cartridge somewhere.
The endless hours I spent playing this game from start to finish. This particular stage was HARD. Almost always used to die in the area where the space to fit throught get really small.
I STILL remember one password (at age 32) to get lots of points to spend:
KBB KBB PPN KHD I think you get about 85000 point and start on stage 2.
*pulls out NES emulator...*

Ah yes, the Q code. I liked this game. Thanks for posting!

@Emillll Well, there is always the exception in your case - Mr. BIG HEAD! We can't be all like you.

There's absolutely nothing hard about the last stage with the exception of that jagged part at about 0:44. lol @ thinking this was played by the computer...
I loved this game when I was a kid but I don't see how it would take you over a year or more to finish this game unless you're playing like...one minute a day. Took me maybe 2 days, not sure how many hours per day and that's to explore everything.

A Rare/Tradewest game, not as hard as Battletoads perhaps, but still an ridiculously tough game.

So he basically flys into the sun at the end?
-
hardest game i ever played

This is not R-Type. It is J-Type (J for jetman)
i remember being a kid' and my dad got to this level and put the joy pad down thinking he had completed it! and crashed and lost the game hahahahahahaha!

That last level is played by the computer, and not a real person! Don't be fooled everyone.
After going through all those tough levels, which could take over a year or more for some people, I think they could of made the ending a lot better than that.
What an anticlimax!

Was that supposed to be a compliment?
I would have started over until I beat it with zero damage but it is actually tough.

One friend told me long ago that would have liked that all the game was like this part... but i don't agree, like u :) By the way, did u know that there is a password that allows u to play this level with the ordinary ship? It's useless, but interesting.

Yep, there is a lot of different crazy passwords aside from that too. Each of the mini-levels (where you collect the Warpship parts) is considered an extra planet to the game code, so manipulating it into thinking you were on planet "14" for example, would send you to the mini-level on planet 1. Planet "15" is mini-level of planet 2 etc.
