  • The giant ice cream dish was called The Zoo. Had tons of ice cream in it and fed the whole party. They ran it around on the stretcher type thing & a siren and bell would go off while they ran it to your table while running past all the other aisles.

  • The last time that I went to Farrells was the one in Huntington Beach on Brookhurst and Adams. It was in what is now the Target parking lot. One of my teachers from high school took me there for my birthday (18th) in 1979.

  • @Dan4USCTroy Particularly on Main Street USA.

  • chuck e cheese pizza is shit...tombstone is better than that

  • @rkmugen Me too. I remember going to Farrell's in Daly City as well. My mother took me there whenever I celebrated my birthday in the early 80s. When Toons replaced Farrell's, it just wasn't the same; that place sucked. :p

  • Ahhh, Farrell's Westland Mall Hialeah, Florida! If you lived the 80's you were blessed. You gotta feel for these young kids born in the late 80's and 90's. They missed the last great decade!

  • @sadaist Don't forget the Pig Trough. They have reopened two in California in the last year, another one planced.... and ready to select locations for a few more in other states. I'm hoping they come back to Orlando and the Altamonte Mall again, lol

  • I was able to take my kids to the last Ferrells in the world before it closed about five years ago. When I was growing up in San Diego in the 70s Farrells was the place every school group, kids sports team, or church youth group went for their final meetings and banquets. My family used to go there for birthdays, too. Great ice cream and a lot of fun. The one we went to all the time in La Mesa, CA is now a Kinkos. Every time I go there to copy something, I miss Farrells.

  • I had my sixth birthday part at Farrell's and still remember it, it was so muchfun

  • @WAIATA4U I used to go to the Farrell's at Eastridge mall when I was a kid (and the Chuck E Cheese you mention)... I have since moved to Orange County and I just found out today that they are opening a NEW Farrell's in Brea, CA the next town over!

  • My buddy and I went to Farrell's. He went to the bathroom and I ordered a float. He came back and as he was sitting down and guy came up and shouted something about what a great float it was and then he slid the float in front of me and shouted, "...and it's the glass you get to keep!!" And then my friend looked at me and asked, "What the hell did you order anyway?" LOL

  • Many a birthday spent at Farrell's in Portland, OR in the 1970s. Their version of the big ice cream sundae was the Portland Zoo (which is now the Oregon Zoo). The building was used for other restaurant chains since but it's been empty for a handful of years. Their late 1890s-early 1900s decor would not cut it now--not slick enough for the kiddos of the 2000s.
