  • do most tegus loose the tips of their toes when they are mature? mines about a year old has got all his toes, sometimes it seems he has a bad shed on the tip of his nose tho, what is there to do to help shedding and prevent toes from coming off?

  • @brandandoman13

It is very common in tegu's but is not natural, it is caused by the pet owners husbandry, alot of it has to do with not getting proper nutrients and hydration, which can lead to stuck shed, thus leading to cutting off the blood circulation in that toe or finger, which eventually dries and falls off. I received this tegu like this from a previous owner very sad indeed

  • How come I've seen tegu with large cheeks and some without? Does it depend on what size the food your giving it is?

  • @NinjaRick1

Males have large cheeks, were as females have a much smaller more narrow head. depends on what locale your tegu is too, some get fairly larger and more robust.......

  • are u still saleing the red tegu

  • i was but i sold it already about 2 weeks ago for 185

  • Red tegus are often found with missing toe tips. As repticguy stated, it's due to poor animal husbandry. In the case of reds, they demand an almost split diet of fruits and meats equally. This tegu previous owner probably thought, "Oh, it's a tegu. I'll just feed it meats." Which led to ringer, or the toes dying and falling off. All stated aside, this is one great looking boy, keep it up!

  • @brandandoman13 plus i take mary my lizard out the vivarium put her in bath for 40,minutes.

plus this is what i do nearly every day spray some ZOO/MED skin sheadding aid. plus i do spray it on her

toenails. My advice brandandoman13 is dont use humidifires put in exo/terra humidity monitors in, then every day you ssee the arow on green modreate spray water wish lucky reptile air presure till bark soil is kind wet. then that should be ok. i dont ever feed mine vege fruit & i have no probble

  • @brandandoman13 only if the humidity is not right as my tegu

is 36inch long and she has vot lost any toenails yet thy are vey long sharp

may be 2cm round as my humidity is 100% all time as i use humidity meters

and i spray 15,litres water in the huge vivarium every day

  • @brandandoman13 lots of fruit. in the wild they eat 66% fruit, but of course they prefer meat that's what helps them finsing it. Bad thing is, they get hooked on it easily :D they're like kids, you HAVE to get them eat more fruit. Also you can bathe them daily in mid-warm water, wich makes them poop and with regular feeding this can prevent unwanted shitmines on your floor.

  • Wish mine was nicer... All mine wants to do is take my hand off and one time it almost took my eye out when it jumped out of the cage at me an bit the side of my face.

  • awwww

  • some guy said he heard they were agressive... this one doesn't seem to be like that at all... I'm a biology student and reptiles have always been my thing so I know some stuff about them. I'm not that into tegus' behavioral patterns but it does vary from individual to individual... look, go see a breeder... he'll show you the ropes and will dispell any doubts you might have. I go for snakes and monitor lizards... but after this vid, I've taken an interest on Tegus as well. Amazing animal!

  • @justwealth

From a lot of videos i saw around here they can actually be quite affectionate, probably depends when you got them. Ones you got when they where very young seem to form a closer bond and are more peaceful. And of course depends on their character, no two animals behave the same (we have a lot of cats around here and each one has a unique personality too)
