Obama and LGBT Discrimination: No Executive Order

Via Slate: "...top aides of President Obama* informed a group of lobbyists and advocates that his administration would not issue an executive order banning discrimination against LGBT people who work for federal contractors. Obama had campaigned in support of such an order back in 2008, but, according to meeting attendee and Center for American Progress executive vice president Winnie Stachelberg, the White House now espouses a "multipronged effort to better address workplace discrimination against gay and transgender Americans"...".* The Young Turkst host Cenk Uygur shares his take.

of course, gay people have more issues with safety than others, and that needs to be addressed, but that does not mean they are not legally entitled to freedom and security under the constitution (they are)

Thanks to the disproportionate focus on gay marriage most Americans don't even know that you can legally discriminate against LGBTs, or people you suspect are LGBTs in the workplace. And in housing. This makes people think LGBTs don't have any real problems to be addressed as a result of the attitudes spread.

My friend is trangsgendered, luckily he's a female to male transexual so he gets less shit for it, but it's very heartbreaking to see people scorn him. He is incredibly intelligent, top of his class, and it will be difficult for him to find a job just because he was born in a wrong body. As if wearing binders that have broken his ribs and the great amount of emotional pain wasn't enough. Fuck Obama, weak ass punk.
