Samsung ATIV 500T Review / Warning for Canadians

This is a quick early morning review / warning about the new Samsung ATIV 500T Tablet PC. Specifically, I wanted to warn Canadians about the changes from the American model. The promotional material from Samsung doesn't make these changes clear whatsoever.

I originally bought the tablet from BestBuy for 699 + Tax. Realized there was no stylus or keyboard dock. Then I returned it and went and bought it at the Microsoft Store in Toronto for $749 including keyboard dock and stylus. In short, Best Buy is a real ripoff.

Damn.....so the MS Store in Toronto must be selling the US version then. Can you confirm the part number? Should end with US.

So just curious, have you had it lock up a few times yet?

Oh yes you're right. It's a A03US. So not really Best Buy's fault, but the pricing strategy is just out of whack. I haven't had any lockups yet, sometimes performance is sluggish after hibernate with many apps open, but it resolves itself after 15 seconds or so. I did update the computer from both the Metro interface and from the Desktop using the Update Tool. Bios updates, driver updates etc. It works pretty well for me.

Thanks for the clarification. Glad it's working well for you. Now if I could just get Samsung to answer why they would even release a crippled Canadian version. (Not likely)

I have 3 laptops running Windows 8 with Wifi and none has the problem you mention.

Great review. You are the only person who mentioned some of the horseshit of this device. I have an american version and I couldn't get those fricken dock tabs off. I almost destroyed my fingernails before deciding to use all sorts of tools to take them off. I ended up scratching the device with scissors to get the fricken tabs off. BTW I have an american version of this.

I'm having the same Wifi issue you described on my Asus VivoTab RT. Haven't tried unhiding my SSID at home, but it happens sometimes at school too so I'm guessing it won't help.

mugendc5 is right. MS store in Toronto (I checked Yorkdale location yesterday) sells US version! THinking of picking up soon but not until the keyboard issue is fixed. I think you should fix the video regarding this?
