While photographing the Port of Long Beach refineries a group of photographers were confronted by a security guard and were told it was illegal to photograph oil refineries.
Shortly after the encounter with the security guard(which can be seen at "I Don't Care About the Law") 4 Harbor Patrol units (which, according to them, aren't actual police) engaged us saying they were responding to a physical and verbal confrontation.
During the predominantly pleasant encounter the officer attempted to gain our information surreptitiously via our license plate numbers -- which is a tactic used by law enforcement when they can not legally ask for your ID. So far, we know of two photographers who have been visited by FBI when law enforcement has used this method to determine who they were.
One of the Harbor Patrol officers also stated that we should have notified them that we were coming.
However, this is not a police state and what were doing was perfectly legal. We do not have to notify anybody.

hang on so you went down there to photo the refineries because people were being harrased..... so basically trying to make a real pain of your selves just because you can.
If it is against the law to photo sensitive areas or potential terrorist targets it not a poilce state you can still photo elsewhere.. just like me going to a miltary base and photoing the tanks then moaning about police state..
and how the hell would you know? They do have powers! But I bet your ass, they'll be the first to respond if any crap hits the fan, and you'll be the one calling!
You are so stupid that is not the point of the law Discarted. After 9/11 law inforcement is required to check up on ANY suspicious activity. Terrorist come in all shapes, sizes and colors. I know becuase i live in NYC. Any subway rider that sees any box on the floor is to report it to police, you never know if it could be a bomb. Taking pictures of historical buildings is cause for concern like the United Nations building empire state, etc So are your rights violated? no
point of what law? shapes? sizes? colors? what's suspicious?
you know because you live in NYC? that's laughable
you're more likely to be killed by a family member, an acquaintance, a US citizen, or a cop for that matter, than you are an evil, spooky terrorist
the terrorism card is a joke for most people who can think clearly and formulate their own opinions as oppose to someone like yourself, subscribing to and regurgitating all of the BS were told
well being paranoid is a bi-product of living in a police state. my comments are in general and are not based so much on this actual video but on personal experience with encounters with l.e. while i shoot my photography. l.e. officers have no right too approach a person based on race, sex or because they are taking photographs with a nice camera.
