Nurses demand contract at Kaiser Permanente HMO in Los Angeles after denial by Kaiser for over one year. I was recently a patient in this hospital undergoing surgery on Valentines Day and being treated by these very professional and dedicated nurses. I noted how crucial each minute can be in pre-op and post-op care by nurses and all staff involved. Often they seemed to be stressed by the many calls for help and a multitude of duties that go along with their job. But their manner of treatment was always positive and kind when they attended to me and others in my view. The only shortcoming I experienced was one nurse in the post-op waiting room who forgot to bring me an extra blanket to warm my feet after he had offered to do so. Hope Kaiser negotiates with the NUHW in good faith for the sake of nurses and patients like me, as well! LOS ANGELES -- Over a thousand Registered Nurses at Kaiser Permanente's flagship hospital in Southern California will walk off the job this Wednesday in a 24-hour strike to protest Kaiser's unfair labor practices, including its refusal to bargain in good faith, and to protect patient care standards at the hospital. Wednesday's strike will be the first by nurses at Kaiser Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC) in over twenty years, and the first strike by any workers at any Kaiser facility since 1997.

Oh maybe I'll call the doctor to come to your bedside and titrate your blood pressure medication, make sure your oxygenating well, clean up your vomit, offer you water, and give you medication :) I'm sure they'll be happy to do that for you.

@Cksprom I'll make sure when you get admitted to the hospital to sit on my ass and do nothing all shift long while you're rotting away in the ICU. Oh maybe I

@cskprom, Alot of patients are being put at risk because hospitals are not hiring new nurses to meet the growing number of patients. They do not want to spend the money to train newly graduated nurses, so they pile on more and more work onto existing nurses who are pressured to take on more patients than they can handle, or work extra shifts (keep in mind that nurses are the front line of healthcare, and they were already working gruelingly long shifts with heavy workloads BEFORE hiring freezes)

Are these people kidding??? They're complaining of nurse to patient ratio, while all they do is sit on their asses all day long, waiting for their shift to end.
