I was recently in Canada during the winter. My friend and went out into the woods and built a shelter for our survival trip.

I had to lower the video quality to post in full. The alternative being to have a slightly higher picture quality video with a Part 1 and Part 2.

  • Are you sure that was a birch? (for the tinder)

  • Yes, it's birch.

  • Regarding the trees, we intentionally took boughs from many different ones, rather than just one tree. Same goes for the birch bark. The whole experience was for the practical application of shelter building and survival skills.

Book knowledge is great, but first hand experience has unique value and works towards preparing oneself if an emergency situation ever arose.

Keep in mind, the last time I checked, the shelter was still intact, which allows it to be used as a den for wildlife.

  • nice how old you?

  • 26 now. I was 23 in the video I think.

  • Oh I wish you didn't have to cut the tree down :(. I felt so sad for that tree :(. I hope it didn't hurt inside :(... oh man if they are able to hurt inside very slowly I will be so sad and mad at you guys! You guys are so funny trying to survive !

  • omg if that happened to my socks in alabama I would be very upset. I'd probably cry. Lucky me it hardly ever freezes just cold enough to kill. reccomend you get some goretex socks to keep that from happening. They are pricey but worth it for dry feet and socks that do not freeze.

  • @reluctantprophet7

we were plenty warm ... we had a fire earlier that day out at the bluffs ... it wasn't windy and we were dressed right ... we no difficulty with fires
