An emotional Tribute to John Henry Bonham from sister Deborah Bonham. Salty Dog drummer Khurt Maier. Deborah absolutely killed this song. Pat Bonham (John's widow), Jason (son) and Zoe (daughter) were in attendance.

There are drummers and there are DRUMMERS. John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham was the latter. The anchor of the heaviest band ever to grace the stage, Led Zeppelin, and undoubtedly the best drummer in rock 'n' roll history, he died on this day 30 years ago. After a day of heavy drinking, he was put to bed at band member Jimmy Page's home and was found the next morning by his other bandmate, John Paul Jones. A sad day in rock history. When one thinks of this incident, Don McLean's song "American Pie" comes to mind because an aspect of music definitely died that day.

"Bonzo: The Groove Remains The Same," a tribute in honor of the legendary sticksman, September 25, 2010 at the Key Club in Los Angeles, California. The program features a plethora of renowned drummers. Here's a list of drummers who performed:

Steve Adler (GUNS N' ROSES, ADLER'S APPETITE)
Bobby Blotzer (RATT)
Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER)
Fred Coury (CINDERELLA)
Jimmy D'Anda (BULLETBOYS)
James Kottak (SCORPIONS)
Abe Laboriel (PAUL MCCARTNEY)
Khurt Maier (SALTY DOG)
Stephen Perkins (JANE'S ADDICTION)
Chris Slade (THE FIRM, AC/DC)
Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, CHICKENFOOT)
Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL)
Joe Travers (ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, DURAN DURAN)
Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO)
Zoe Bonham
Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL)
Kenny Aronoff (JOHN COUGAR, JOHN FOGERTY)
Frankie Banali (QUIET RIOT)

Vanilla Fudge's Carmine Appice and Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy will perform via video. The musicians who will be joining these world class drummers on stage are Brent Woods (guitar), Michael "Denim" Devin (bass), Keith St. John (vocals), Stephen LeBlanc (keyboards), and Brian Tichy (guitar).

Jason Bonham's set to kick off his own tribute to his dad, the Led Zeppelin Experience Tour, on October 8, 2010, in Canada. Long live the echoes of John Bonham's thunderous, primal beats.

  • Khurt Maier was off the hook! Deborah was amazing. Michael Devin (Bass) was right there. I am not a guitar player, but there have been many comments about his playing. I do not believe Danny Carey was at the tribute. It was the most amazing rendition of the song I have ever heard. It was very emotional with Deborah singing a tribute to her brother John. Peace.
