In 2006, Luke Schmitz was deployed to Iraq with the Minnesota National Guard. That same year, he was injured and lost his right leg above the knee. After extensive rehabilitation at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Luke saw a flier titled, Try Out for Sled Hockey. It was the beginning of a new hobby. In tonights first feature, Life to the Max follows Luke on the ice at a recent Minnesota Wild game, where he served as the flag bearer in the traditional State of Hockey opening ceremony that precedes all Wild home games. Hear from other sled hockey players, coaches, and parents and learn about the Minnesota Disabled Hockey Association and Minnesota Special Hockey — part of the reason we call Minnesota The State of Hockey!
