So after doing a little background checking, this malt is smoked over Beechwood, not peat... hah... and it totally tastes like split pea soup. And for reasons I can't explain as it warms up and you're drinking more of it... it grows on you.. Thanks for watching.... Ty...

  • I don't think Schlenkerla is brewed in the Steinbier technique. The base malt is smoked with beechwood. It's way smoother of a smoke than peat. You can go to the schlenkerla website to read about the process. Weyermann also sells Rauchmalt made in the same way. I agree it's wild but it's a treat in 8oz pours.

There are much milder versions of Rauchbier available in Germany and some of them are great by the liter, so I hear.

  • So by the end of this beer (especially when it started warming up) I just wanted to crack saltines into it and mop it up with a nice sourdough bread because it tasted so much like split pea soup. And for some reason, as a beer, that appealed to me more and more as time went on... hah... I sure do like beer Bobby... ;)

  • mmm yummy and interesting , i am not sure about the meat taste and nice sampling glasses glad to hear American's dont just drink bud shxt.

you hair seems much redder in this video rather than a dark cherry blond.

  • Im a little Irish... ;)

  • I heard that the beer in Germany is the best in the world.. there's supposedly nothing else like it.. is that true?

  • Beer is nothing more than a preference... There is no right or wrong reason to not like something you enjoy the taste of. But... I must admit... Germans certainly seem to take this process very seriously... and they should... Thanks for watching... Ty...

  • Its a good video but i have to correct you about steinbier (stone beer). Stone beer is/was not just bavarian brewing style. Stone beer technique was used in most countries of medieval europe and was thriving in some parts of Germany, Slovenia, Scandinavia, Poland and Austria until 19th century. But it is true that it survived only in germany becouse of revival made by Rauchenfelser Steinbier brewery.

  • Use a dimple mug. Btw, always look at the website for new beers, it'll tell you how to enjoy them best.

  • not in the north (sorry for the bad english I'm a Franke)

  • TakeSomeAdvice you've right, the Germany beer is the best in the world, but not every beer from Germany is good. In the south of Germany so in Bamberg is the beer very good The area from Bamberg is called Franken, there're many beer, which tastes very good. But if you look in the north of Germany there arent good beer. They don't drink and they don't produce so much beer than in Franken. Somebody has written"Germans certainly seem to take this process very seriously"that's true in the south but

  • Hey man, I like your videos...what happened... Did you lose your camera??

  • I have had this beer imported to my local world of beer and I must say that it tasted like straight smoked bacon. This was one of the beers from Germany that I am happy to have tried but I won't buy it again. It is way to smokey for me.

  • You can buy Schlenkerla in the US man. You can get at least three different kinds (Helles, Urbock, Marzen). The Marzen is the 2nd to smokiest, the Urbock being the most smokey. I love that stuff. It is funny to see your reaction for your first sip of smoked beer! It is definitely something that one has to get used to, but once you do, watch out. You will develop a hankering for it now and then. :) (also like sour beers).
