Jean Kilbourne's pioneering work helped develop and popularize the study of gender representation in advertising. Her award-winning Killing us Softly films have influenced millions of college and high school students across two generations and on an international scale. In this important new film, Kilbourne reviews if and how the image of women in advertising has changed over the last 20 years.

With wit and warmth, Kilbourne uses over 160 ads and TV commercials to critique advertising's image of women. By fostering creative and productive dialogue, she invites viewers to look at familiar images in a new way, that moves and empowers them to take action. Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • This is a worthy cause. If we look back to say the 50s of 60s even "high" fashion was simply about a bit of lipstick, mascara, a pair of nylons and a nice dress not plastic surgery, photo-shopped images no one can ever look like and unhealthy looking models wearing clothes you wouldn't use as a horse blanket. So many more young women have image problems because of this sick industry which is not promoting anything realistic for either gender.

  • i really hate what society does to women.

  • @rob6van1dam9 a girl right, a lot of people watching Harry Potter, but did not try to fly on a broom

  • I was in a forum where someone posted a study of how women automatically judge their appearance when they see a picture of a digitally-enhanced woman.

One girl responded and said that, and I quote "these ads don't affect me and they shouldn't affect anyone, unless you're a pansy :P"

The girl who said that had a picture of Kim Kardashian as her display picture.....it's amazing how blind people can be.

  • old traditional values, chilvalry and modesty...if our generation is accepting this crap now imagine what our children are going tp think of as this is gonig to be tame and "old fashioned"..im not selling anything other than if you want to expunge your systems from this crap start practising it, get practical and tomorow do one positive thing for charity or read a book on 4 different religious beliefs and practices.turn off your tvs and instead of buying that magazine donate to charity instead

  • dont just watch it on youtube pratice fighting this crap with actually enjoying LIFE!leave our homes,go outdoors, parks have picnics, read, shut the world off and meditate, join a charity or donate to charity by investing little money to give a family some hope in a third world country on a weekly basis, monthly or daily it is soooo rewarding it feeds ones soul.freedom is not being enslaved to a idiot box!freedom is hapiness without an addiction to un-natural hypnotising rubbish.go back to -

  • Islam has been telling us to fight this as your enemy, not wht violence but be the exact opposite.practice modesty as it is the opposite of this.dont watch it,dont buy it,dont listen to it and dont follow it.this is what seperates us from you.im not saying if you are not a muslim you are all this, i am saying this is why muslim women cover.these are alllll NEGATIVE if you are been told to cover you bodies and hair then you are not part of this dirty disease.this media freedomis UGLY so dnt be.
