  • a little mistake, not frederich IV, but william I

  • Tom Williamson says: No it's not a little mistake, it's a big mistake. You're absolutely right. And Dad (Wilhelm I) should have let his liberal son (Friedrich III Wilhelm) have the throne. Too bad young Friedrich had married Victoria from England...

  • Very well done! Interesting commentary :)

  • Thank you for this interesting history. I have been to the Victory Column before - and I'll be back there again next month. I'm going to take my time and look at this more closely.

  • this is wonderful, thanks for showing us homebodies a little culture :)

  • Vielen herzlichen Dank.

When I was at the Siegessäule, the only thing I was fascinated with was getting to the top.

I wish I had paid more attention to the history at the base. When I return to Berlin, I MUST GO BACK there ....

  • Once again, check that damn sound, B4 a take by doing a SOUNDTEST. Cameramen/women: Listen thru headphones or a small earpiece. At all times...beware of wind, traffic. Do that take at a different hour? But you rock -giving history lessons!

  • These things being very complex, let me point out that Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm was a field commander in the war of 1870/71. He also had a big beard. In 1888, Prince Friedrich Wilhelm briefly became Emperor of Germany (and King of Prussia) as Friedrich III. He died after 3 months in office, and his son Wilhelm II followed him to the throne.
