sometimes decay will descend too far down the tooth and the tooth nerves are exposed to the decay. BIG hurties. the specialist will go way down to the nerve tissue in the "root" of the tooth and use those '''ra-ce" thingies to clean out all living nerve tissue and blood supply to the tooth. then plugs up the tooth in the root area. this means the tooth will not relay pain anymore because the nerves are gone. it really is more complicated than that, but is vital to save a tooth.

RCT is a procedure that eliminates inflammation and thus pain in the pulp of teeth (the nerve )

I had a major rooth canal done a few years back. There was no pain during or after for me, but it felt like I was there for an eternity and being tortured. Lol....thinking about it now.
